Alex Calvo
Alex Calvo is an Investment Strategist and Portfolio Manager at NewEra Wealth, with more than 30 years of experience across global markets, fixed income, and portfolio construction. He works with ultra-high-net-worth individuals and institutional clients, focusing on disciplined portfolio design, risk management, and long-term outcomes.
From 1995 to 2006, Alex held senior roles at Franklin Templeton Investments, including Director of Global Fixed Income and Senior Vice President. During this period, he was part of the core investment team responsible for global macro and fixed-income strategy and co-managed more than $35 billion across several of the firm’s flagship funds, including the Templeton Global Bond Fund, the Global Asset Allocation Fund, and the Global Total Return Fund.
During Alex’s tenure, these strategies were among the most widely followed global funds in the industry and were known for their disciplined, valuation-driven approach. The funds demonstrated the ability to navigate a range of market environments, including interest-rate cycles, currency volatility, and emerging-market stress, while maintaining a consistent investment process. They were frequently referenced by institutional investors, consultants, and industry publications for their long-term orientation, risk awareness, and global diversification.
Alex’s investment approach centers on global diversification, downside risk management, and disciplined portfolio construction. He brings a deep understanding of how fixed income, currencies, and asset allocation interact within broader portfolios, helping clients balance income generation, capital preservation, and long-term growth.
Alex is a Ph.D. (ABD) in Economics from Boston University. He holds a Master’s degree in Economics and Finance from The Fletcher School at Tufts University and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Binghamton University.
